Drinking Japanese Matcha Tea Reduces Anxiety |
A study in mice published in the journal Functional Foods found that anxiety behavior in rodents was reduced after consuming matcha powder or matcha extract.
For the study, the researchers conducted an elevated plus maze test - an anxiety test for rodents - and found that mice experienced significantly less anxiety after consuming matcha powder or matcha extract.
In addition, when the anxiolytic activity of various matcha extracts was evaluated, a stronger effect was found with the extract prepared using 80% ethanol compared to the extract obtained from hot water alone. Matcha is a finely ground powder of new leaves from green tea bushes (90%) Camellia sinensis. Matcha is used in the classic tea ceremony of traditional Japan, and also as an addition to wagashi desserts, soba noodles and ice cream. Mironova A. (based on Functional Foods) |
