Having cried a sea of tears, having gone through with alcohol or simply not getting enough sleep, you risk waking up the next morning with puffy eyes. Of course, you can cover the bags that appear under your eyes with cool sunglasses, but this will not solve the problem. What's more, bags under the eyes tend to be accompanied by other problems such as dark circles and severe redness.
The swelling of the eyes usually lasts from several hours to several days. If during this period you are not going anywhere, then you can let nature itself determine the timing of bringing your eyes back to normal. However, if you have an important meeting or date, bags under your eyes can be a serious cause for concern. Here are some tricks to help you get rid of them quickly.
The best remedy is prevention
Some people tend to form bags under their eyes, while others do not. If you are one of the former, then you should stay away from things that cause puffy eyes.
If you have an important meeting, try to get a good night's sleep the night before. Also, be careful with alcohol and salty foods, as they tend to retain fluid in the body, which in turn causes swelling.
Simple eye massage
If you are unable to protect your eyes from swelling, do not despair. There are several techniques, such as eye massage, that can help reduce inflammation.
Using your ring fingers, massage the area around your eyes in a circular motion, starting from your sinuses down to your cheeks and back up. Make sure that you lift your skin upward enough without causing wrinkles. Repeat the exercise five times in each eye. Gently massaging the eye contour will help the accumulated fluid to drain away quickly.
A soothing cold eye mask
To relieve irritation, apply a cold mask over your eyes for 10-15 minutes. In addition to the calming effect, the low temperature will constrict the blood vessels and facilitate the drainage of fluid under the skin around the eyes. If you do not have a special plastic eye mask, you can use chilled cucumbers or used tea bags.
Refrain from hot drinks
Having puffiness under the eyes is a good incentive to drink plenty of cold water or other cold drinks... As mentioned, low temperatures cause the blood vessels to constrict and thereby improve the drainage of subcutaneous fluid. Remember, bags under the eyes are just water that has not been properly eliminated from the body.
Don't use eyeliner
If after all the manipulations you still have bags under the eyes, then try not to use eyeliner during the day. It is used to improve the shape of the eye, but if your eyes are puffy, then the eyeliner will only highlight this flaw. Instead, use an eyeshadow that is the same shade as your upper eyelid to mask the swelling.
